Concrete bridge repairs require more than restoring deteriorated materials. When work is performed on active transportation infrastructure with limited access and environmental constraints, these evaluations become even more complex.

Challenge Overview

YA Group was retained to evaluate observed conditions within a reinforced concrete bridge deck following construction-related impacts. The bridge condition assessment required documenting existing conditions, evaluating the extent of affected areas, and developing repair recommendations appropriate for the structure’s design and service environment.

The project presented several technical challenges beyond the observed concrete conditions. Limited access to the underside of the bridge required specialized inspection and repair methods, while portions of the structure located over water introduced additional constructability and environmental considerations. The evaluation also required distinguishing isolated surface conditions from areas requiring more comprehensive repairs and assessing exposed reinforcement where present.
