Professional Biography

Doug Miller is a Senior Managing Engineer at YA Group with more than 20 years of experience in structural engineering and forensic engineering assessments of damage to both building and non‑building structures. His responsibilities include performing forensic evaluations to determine the cause and extent of damage to properties and supporting clients through technically complex loss investigations. Doug also provides building code evaluations, develops scopes of structural repair, and offers expert witness testimony in support of arbitration and litigation proceedings.

Doug has extensive experience performing forensic engineering assessments related to construction defects, water intrusion and building envelope issues, foundation settlement, fires, vehicle and tree impacts, and extreme weather events and natural disasters, including wind, tornadoes, hurricanes, hail, snow and ice, storm surge and flooding, and earthquakes. His work routinely involves determining the cause and/or extent of property damage across a wide range of loss scenarios.

Doug’s engineering background also includes structural design and analysis for new construction, additions, renovations, and rehabilitation projects utilizing wood, steel, concrete, precast and prestressed concrete, and masonry systems. He has structural and forensic engineering experience across a broad range of building types, including multifamily residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and institutional facilities.
