Multidisciplinary Support for a Complex, High-Value Property Loss

Large, complex property losses often require more than one area of expertise to understand the full scope of damage, rebuilding needs, and associated costs. When numerous stakeholders, contractors, and extensive project documentation are involved, coordination across disciplines can be critical to keeping the claim evaluation organized and moving forward.

Following a significant loss event involving a claim valued at more than $200 million, YA Group was engaged to provide multidisciplinary support across the property claim. The ongoing engagement has brought together numerous experts across forensic engineering, forensic accounting, construction consulting, and scheduling to evaluate different components of the loss while supporting a coordinated review process.

Challenge Overview

The scale of the loss created a complex property claim involving multiple insurers, reinsurers, contractors, subcontractors, and thousands of supporting financial and project records. Evaluating the rebuilding effort required technical assessment of the property damage alongside detailed review of contractor costs, invoices, purchase orders, and other documentation.

With numerous parties contributing to the recovery process, the client needed specialized expertise to evaluate the property-related aspects of the claim while organizing significant amounts of information into a format that could support efficient review and informed decision-making.

YA Group’s Area of Impact

YA Group’s multidisciplinary team worked collaboratively to address the technical, financial, construction, and scheduling components of the engagement. Our forensic engineering experts supported the evaluation of the property damage and technical aspects of the rebuilding effort, while our construction consulting and scheduling team provided additional expertise related to reconstruction and project timelines.

To support the property claim by organizing and analyzing extensive financial documentation associated with the rebuilding effort, our forensic accounting team developed a comprehensive database containing thousands of invoices and purchase orders, providing engineers, adjusters, and other stakeholders with a more efficient way to review and reconcile project costs.

Collaboration across the teams also supported negotiations involving contractors and subcontractors to evaluate rebuilding costs. To date, YA Group’s involvement has helped identify approximately $1 million in savings while providing the client and other stakeholders with an organized, multidisciplinary approach to a highly complex property loss.

The engagement remains ongoing and demonstrates the value of bringing specialized disciplines together on large-scale claims, allowing each team to contribute its expertise while working toward a coordinated understanding of the property’s recovery needs.
