Professional Biography
Andrew N. Smith is a Senior Managing Engineer at YA Group with over a decade of experience in the design and forensic analysis of existing structures. He serves as a technical expert for insurance carriers, attorneys, building owners, contractors, and design professionals, leading structural failure and damage investigations from initial response through analysis and reporting.
Andrew has extensive experience investigating damage to roof, structural, and foundation systems resulting from both natural forces and human activity, including wind, hail, hurricane, tornado, and earthquake events, as well as construction accidents, deficiencies, impacts, and explosions. His forensic practice also encompasses cladding and building envelope evaluations and flood, fire, and source-of-moisture investigations.
Andrew’s investigations span residential, commercial, marine, industrial, and agricultural structures, as well as large multi-building complexes, school districts, and apartment, condominium, and HOA communities. On large, complex losses involving multiple buildings or sites, he has directed teams of engineers and technicians to deliver consistent findings across an entire portfolio, and he has provided expert testimony in litigation matters across multiple jurisdictions.
